Why your books matter
Every year, millions of books in this country are simply thrown away. Unsold copies get pulped, and libraries clear their shelves to make room — sending a wealth of knowledge, important history, and timeless stories straight into dumpsters and landfills.
At the same time, books have become a luxury many families simply can’t afford. In many low-income neighborhoods there’s only one children’s book for every 300 kids, and roughly 130 million American adults struggle to read. A love of reading starts with having books close at hand.
The books are out there. So are the people who need them.
They just never seem to find each other.
That’s where you come in.
The books you’re ready to let go of could be someone else’s whole world.
Books hold on to us the way we hold on to them. A treasured first edition, a vintage set passed down through the family, a shelf someone spent a lifetime building — these aren’t just objects, and we don’t treat them that way.
Every book we pick up gets a real second chance. Some are added to our shop’s shelves and sold to new readers, while others are passed along to local used bookstores and to organizations that put them in the hands of people who need them. We rescue them before they reach the landfill so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
